4 Things to do in San Francisco Bay Area this summer 2021

Couple seating closely

Summer is fast approaching and it’s time to get moving. There are many fun things to do in the Bay Area and after the recent restrictions, it will be great to get out and see others doing the same. Here are some things you can do in the San Francisco Bay Area.

  1. Dine alfresco

Among the best places to visit in the San Francisco Bay Area are the many alfresco dining spots with a view of the Golden Gate Bridge. The Bay Area is a restaurant mecca, so you’ll be spoiled for choice. Head to Scoma’s at Fisherman’s Wharf for crab legs and cioppino. If you have kids, treat them to some of the best fish and chips this side of the Atlantic. End your outdoor meal with refreshing adult popsicles.

Looking to escape city congestion? Go to Treasure Island, where you’ll find
MerSea. It’s spacious patio has putt putt, bocce ball, and even a patch of artificial grass, where you can spread a blanket or fly a kite. And if that sounds like it will work up an appetite, try the Philly-style P3 sandwich, which has shaved pork shoulder, pepperoni, and provolone.

  2. Enjoy live music outdoors

Have you missed going to concerts? Catch the outdoor Stern Grove Festival, which runs for 10 Sundays from mid-June to mid-August. Bring layers, a hefty picnic, your fun-loving attitude and you’re all set. Expect stunning performances from the likes of the SF Opera and SF Symphony. Kids are also catered for with the musical lineup selected to appeal to all ages and tastes. Best of all, the Stern Grove Festival is free. Just make sure to set some money aside for your donation.

  3. Take a walk over Golden Gate Bridge

You can’t go to San Francisco without walking over its iconic Golden Gate Bridge. It spans 1.7 miles and is one of the most famous bridges in the world. Around 120,000 vehicles drive across it on a daily basis, but there’s also a pedestrian walkway that allows you to cross the bridge on foot. If you want to cross the bridge on a bike, use the western sidewalk which is usually reserved for cyclers. Make sure to bring your camera; even if you’re biking, as you’ll definitely want to stop at some point to take some shots.

  4. See the sea lions at Pier 19 and Fisherman’s Wharf

If you want to catch some wildlife, head to the wooden walkway behind Pier 39, where you can see sea lions at play. Sea lions have been coming to this spot since 1989 to take advantage of the plentiful fish and squid. After, you can ride the carousel at Pier 39 and explore Fisherman’s Wharf. It’s home to Ghirardelli Square, a block that’s full of enticing shops and restaurants. It’s also the origin of the famous chocolatier who bears the name of the square. Eat and buy as much chocolate as you want, haven’t we earned it?

There are also a lot of other good places to eat at Fisherman’s Wharf, including The San Francisco Brewing Co., known for its craft beer and tasty fish tacos, and Boudin Bistro, where they serve a yummy crab and corn bisque.
